Zwei Deutsche im GJC Tournament All-Star Team

Nine of the victorious Canadians that helped their nation win a second successive NFL Global Junior Championship title were named to the all-tournament team after two days of play at the Pontiac Silverdome.

Running back Samuel Fournier also collected team MVP honors having carried the ball 25 times for 135 yards and a touchdown in the 10-0 championship game victory over Team USA. Kicker Christopher Milo was named to the all-tournament team for the second year running having also starred in Jacksonville in 2005.

Canada did not complete a pass in Sunday’s final, but a 138-yard, two-touchdown performance during the First Round games earned Josh Boden a place among the receivers honored. Three of Canada’s dominating defensive line - Vaughn Martin, Renaldo Sagesse and Sebastien Tetreault – also made the line up.

For the first time in the tournament’s ten-year history a Japanese quarterback was named to the all-tournament team. Takuya Yamashiro suffered a separated shoulder of his non-throwing arm in Japan’s first game on Wednesday, a 7-0 loss to Canada. But he returned to lead Japan to a best-ever third place finish and in winning the bronze medal completed 10 of 18 attempts for 113 yards, a touchdown and the critical two-point conversion pass that beat Mexico 8-7.

USA and Mexico each had five players named to the team and two German players were selected.

Team MVP awards went to defensive end Kory Decker (USA, 13 tackles, 1 sack), linebacker Hironobu Nagashima (Japan, 4 interceptions, 1 sack, 12 tackles), Jose Mateos Sanroman (Mexico, 3 interceptions, 24 tackles) and Senastian Schonrbroich (Germany, 14 tackles, 1 forced fumble).
