EJC 2006: Germans finally defeated Denmark

The Championship first upset was almost comming when Denmark were 12-10 up after the first half. But injuries on key players and a new born Germany whom probably got yelled at during halftime ran over Denmark in the second half and the final result was 47-12.

The Germans did not start the first half in the same phase as against Czech two days ago and had to settle with a field goal on their first drive. Then a interception combat started and the danish team won that one with 2 to 1 after danish MVP Dennis Deleuran caught two balls. This finally set them up for a field goal but this was fumbled away with a bad snap and the first quarter was over.

The full first half was defensivly played very well but finally the germans found their way through the danish defence and German MVP Daniel Berg scored a TD run and the germans were up 10-0. This started of the danish passing game and QB Michael Knudsen started to find his receivers with Kevin Gangelhoff as his primary receiver and he is the one that ends the drive with a TD reception. But the extra point is missed and the score is 10-6. Denmark gets the ball back again and are marching over the whole field and with 6 seconds left of the half Kasper Laursen catches the ball in the end zone. Denmark to half time with a 12-10 lead.

After halftime the German show beginns and they score 37 points in second hald by Patrick Klein, Daniel Berg, Olaf Fries Kasim Edebali and ending the scoring streak is Kevin Oates. Denmark had several chanses to come back in the game and they were in the red zone 5 times but the drives enden in either an interception, fumble or a unsuccessful forth down play.

So, leaving this game behind and looking ahead, the germans will meet Austria this Thursday in a game deciding which team that will play in the final and the Danish team will play a game against Czech to not end up last in the group.
