Costa Rica to Host the IFAF Beach Football World Championship 2017

The International Federation of American Football has revealed that the country chosen to host the first ever Beach Football World Championship in 2017 will be Costa Rica! The decision was made by the IFAF Managing Committee on Wednesday, 14th December, after bidding process which last from 1st to 15th November 2016.

Beach football is a newcomer in official IFAF competitions. Tournament will be held in the last week of October 2017, but the dates will be announced in due course.

Marco Cobar from the IFAF Managing Committee commented:

“We in IFAF are very proud about the decisions being made towards developing our sport, especially when they involve new modalities of football and affect new locations and regions. We are sure that having this event in Costa Rica will have a very strong and positive impact in the Central American Region. It will be proof that inclusion and globalization is the way to go“

So far, beach football competitions were organized at the 2014 Asian Beach Games in Phuket, Thailand.
